Don’t Get Caught Out This Winter: Michael Fish Warns British Households

One of the UK’s most loved weather presenters, Michael Fish, has joined forces with the Home Heat Helpline and warns British households not to get caught out by the cold weather. In a mock weather report, Fish encourages vulnerable people to find out what support is available to them to help with their energy bills and improving efficiency.

Michael Fish has been broadcasting to the UK for over 43 years, most widely known for his BBC weather reports and in particular the infamous ‘hurricane’ mis-report in 1987. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Fish is now urging households not to get caught out by the weather like he did.

Michael Fish said:

“I know all too well what it’s like to get caught out by the weather. This winter, there are 3.6 million homes* eligible for assistance with their energy bills – that’s 14% of British households.”
“With such fierce weather predicted, it’s important that low income and vulnerable households know there is help at hand.”

Angela Knight, Chief Executive, Energy UK said:

“As winter starts to bite, we are strongly urging anyone who is concerned about keeping on top of their bills to call and speak to one of our friendly advisors. There is almost £300 million available to help people living in Britain including the low-income families, elderly, young families, and those with disabilities.”

The Home Heat Helpline offers free, impartial advice to people on low incomes who are worried about their energy costs and staying warm during winter.
